"adult make believe" sounds good to me

I get the point of your post, that its a funny way to give some advice. Not quite sure it got turned into some PC/HC discussion. Not quite sure why people get all fired up about someone elses clothes/style either. Its like kids playing dressup, and one of them goes "Hey you cant wear that!"
And the other goes "Why not?"
And the reply is "Because I said so!"
:slap:

yep I was just making a joke about my ever expanding girth and how many hides it took to cover it and before I knew it I had the whole tribe down on me and I ain't even wored it yet

suffering from cloths that get too small too quick and from time to time in my life too big too quick I got your joke right off.As for it being a War shirt, that just a name we use today.Shirts were given as marks of honor but some times just decorated shirts with no special meaning were worn.RMFT men wore skin shirts bought indian made good from indian women who sewed up a shirt for the mm just like the one for her husband or brother. If we are reinacting a time frame we have to admit the old timers were none to PC back then. Most MM wouldn't give a hoot if something they did or wore was not culturly sensitive To the"FirstPeoples".I made a war shirt and showed it at my granddaughters school.First I got praised for keeping a native made itam so nice and respecting the culture that made it.Then I got thanked for sharing it with the community, then when they found out I had made the shirt my self I was berrated for stealing from native culture.Oh well.If this fat boy ever sees you in your multi skin shirt I'll no doubt say words to the effect of "nice war shirt, you know deer were bigger in the old days and you could make one of those outa just two or maybe three skins"

Un less of corse you killed the man wearing a war shirt and said to your self"nice shirt I think I'll take it for my self"MMtraped for a living stole thigs from Indians for fun

Careful with the War shirt thing.
NDN culture is still very current, and when one dabbles as a non-native in things that still have sacred value you can offend folks and not even know it.

It's your choice of course, but here in Minn I live and attend Rendezvous in areas that are home to several different bands, I just have respect to not do or display things that a white man shouldn't have unless gifted.
Again, most of that is a local thing and lessons learned from friends.

I know what you mean - I get offended when I see Native Americans wearing Levi's, Nike shoes & ballcaps while driving pick up trucks. These are all sacred items of the culture I've been raised in and I resent their intrusion ...

I think I'll get me some sacred Chippewa ceremonial clothing and some sacred tobacco..... I'm sure my grandfather wouldn't mind......

it's all a fanicy in here and on weekends.

to the OP, wear what you want. feel good about making it yourself. its fun, its being outdoors with other like minded people.

I saw a piece from a Pow Wow last night. More like a clown circus. Plastic everything, ball caps, Hawaiian shirts. They looked ridiculous. Preserving culture? No way unless it was pot smoking hippies from the 1960s.
BTW, what does NDN mean? If I don't know, I can't insult them.

Getting way :eek:ff ___ I think you guys have beaten this topic to death and "who cares" what someone calls a shirt? ___ Ya swing a dead cat and your bound to hit another expert or two!

Rick

In my lifetime I have heard people argue over PC and HC topics of clothing.
Finally had enough, so one morning I ventured out from my tent wearing only a small tree branch to cover myself.
Didn't hear anymore about PC or HC. :rotf:

Rick
But it's fun beating dead horses....... Speaking of off topic, Who do ya think will win, Custer or Sitting Bull........?

Well Custer of course, he's white and has access to all the modern stuff,
and he doesn't care about native culture either.

And don't even get me started on the hangers for these shirts !!! :eek:ff
Didja ever notice the wooden hangers play nice; but those metal ones.......
put 2 together in a dark closet; and they BREED like crazy !
Open the closet door and turn on the light and there's like 673 and 1/2 of the beasties and they are all mixed together like a puzzle...
No matter what time of the year .. metal hangers = rutting season... :shocked2: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
just sayin' ......
be well
thom :dead: :snore: :snore:

At my club ronnys (which we have blessedly discontinued) a couple of the guys wear breech clouts with jocky underwear. :shocked2: The sight is beyond describing. Personally, I have no trouble with anyone viewing a bit of my thighs or exposing same. It is the expanded waistlines that are really non-pc.

Edit: what is NDN?

Exactly...

We have to keep in mind Indians didn't live in a culture that had concepts as sacred and secuular.Life religion war hunting making love having dinner watching a sunrise were all the same. They had an I-thou relationship with the world around them. There was no church and state.Every thing was sacred, everything was secular. Many of todays Indians choose to be insulted by anything a non Indian can do.Yes I said Indians I am not very P-C.They are not native, they came from africa just like me.They are not first peoples, evedince suggest as many as a dozen imegation events,we don't know who was first. As long as we say Germany and Japan insted of Durtchland and Nippon I think I'll stick with Indian. In the old days whites and Blacks and Mexicans to boot adopted and used Indian stuff, beleifs skills and clothing.
