Morning capper :hatsoff:
Is that rifle for sale at American hunting and fishing?
Make sure you shine a bore light down the barrel.
Did ya get that 20 below weather we are over here.

No, I can't look at it. It's on an online gun broker. It says the bore is like a mirror, but you know how that goes. I'm going to PT you the link so you can look at it.

We didn't get -20, but it was cold.

OK....with a little research, I found this: http://www.neconos.com/category/PRESSUREFIRELAPPING-20
I think the 4-abraisions kit is the one I want.
Went to my local walmart and they have recently re-modeled the store.....no bulk fabrics anymore. They had some duck cotton in 2 yard packages but the thickest I measured was only .016-.017. Theres a bigger wallyworld nearby that I'll bet has the full fabrics dept......will check there for the .028-.030 stuff.
Thanks again for all the great advise.

I would suggest you call before you go there.

A year or so back, Wally World decided to phase out its fabrics area and they seem to slowly be working towards that goal.

Zoni is right, They would drather have you buy cheep crap from China then to sew your own clothes.
I keep my eyes open and when decides to go out of buisness I show up and buy all their good cloth for half price.
I think I am sitting on 15 bolts of that canvas.
My wife makes pants and shirts out of it as well.
Let me know if you can't find it at your super duper wall mart and I send ya some.

I've never been happy with the 1-48 twist of the factory barrel on my .50cal TC Rennegade so I recently purchased a drop in Green Mountain barrel.
It's a 32" 1-70 twist for patched round balls.
My question is where should I start with...
#1- patch thickness
#2- lube
#3- ball diameter
#4- powder charge

Anyone been down this road?
I'm thinking (and hoping) the GM barrel will be a HUGE improvment for patched round balls and will just need some fine tune on the powder charge.
If it matters, I'll be mostly hunting Texas whitetails within 125 yards.

Thanks, Kel

Where did you find the barrel? I'm not having much luck finding one. I need a .54 cal.

I got it from Track. They only have the .50 in stock now or I'd probly gone with the .54 myself.
I don't care much for the sights or the limp noodle ramrod it came with, but thats changed easy enough.

I hear you on the ramrod. You'd think a company like GM would supply a nice Hickory rod. Even if they have to add a few bucks to the price.

I couldn't tell what the sights were in the pictures. I figured they would be the stock Renegade sights. Which are too modern for me, but better than no sights.

The sights are a little different than the ones on my older Renegade barrel. The rear is an adjustable Williams that is simmilar to the Renegade but smaller, has the same bolt pattern so can be swapped for the origional. Front sight is a modern looking blade type with a brass pin on top....yuk.

yup and track had all kinds of sites to tap into that 3/8 dove tail.
HeyPete I know you said you site issues, go to track of the wolf and check out their "tang" peep site.
It's a long ajustable tang that starts in front of your breach then comes to rest on your breach plug tang.
I put one on my 54 Leman Percession for long range above tree line hunting.
With a globe front site, man it bring critters right into focus.

Capper.....have you checked here for a GM .54cal barrel?

Wish I'd searched a little more before I settled on the .50. Probly best to give 'em a call and see if they are in stock.

Greenmntnboy.......your offer on the fabric is very kind sir. I'm still looking, but if I don't come up with something around here, I'll be in touch.

Thanks all.

That's great !!! Be sure and let us know how it works out. Haven't got to shoot mine yet, but should be soon. Trying to find some FFF around here, no luck yet, local Cabela's is out.

No BP for me for 100 miles. With the gas mileage my Jeep gets, it's easier to pay the Hazmat fees.
