No one has mentioned having a screw tipped horn! I'm suprised!
 yep ghost i got one or should say made one , I used a standard set of tap and die to cut the threads in the tip . this worked fine for many years but i found that it still was to slow :hmm: for my liking .
Soooooo what to do , I looked at those little brass acorn plugs but just couldn

I took the Yuppie way out and bought a little copper funnel. Actually, it didn't cost me all that much. ::
Cruzatte

I've used the funnel and/or spout systems, but wrapping my thumb and forefinger around the horn spout has proved to work quite well for me,and it's one less piece of equipmet to fool with.

Me too. I can fill my horn this way and barely lose a few grains.

I use one of these:

Powder spout

It fits a can of Goex, although I don't know about other brands (I only shoot Goex). Snip a little off the end until the hole is large enough for the amount of flow you want. Get two or three, so you'll have one for each powder granulation.

I'm the lazy one,, remember ?? This is my horn, I somke cig's also, so I put a piece of wood over the spout, Don't want a hot ash gettin close,, although it is closed any way with the valve on it

Please tell me your not serious about smoking while shooting bp :nono:

If you want a free spout, next time you buy some differential grease save the lil screw-on spout on the bottle. In fact, I save all of them & use the same ospout on all of my bottles so I have clean ones for powder. Also Lucas oil treatments has the lil spout on them for there axle bearing oil & etc. Now the thread is not a perfect fit so you can't overtighten it, but it will work fine if you just snug it on there.

Insert the spout all the way into the horn & fill horn/flask it til you see the powder stop flowing & then put can & horn horizontal & slowly separate tiping them both verticle as you do so & I have no spillage this way. Been filling my flasks & primer horns for years this way.

As far as the static being a problem with the plastic, that has not been a problem with any of these spouts I have used. The most you could have anyway is a lil static cling issue.

Now all I have to do is go find some horns. I hauled cattle for two years, had all kinds of horns (goat and cattle), skulls, you name it. Then I gave them all away. :curse:

O-well. That same boss wants me to come back out and run some loads for him in the next few weeks. All I need now is the sign, "Will work for horns".

And Wart, I thought it was all about the smoke?

Hobbles, I am also very lazy. That lube mix worked nice. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for all the help. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I made a funnel from the scrap aluminum of a soft drink can...lost it, now just fold a piece of stiff paper and put the powder in that and tip it into the horn...works fine...Hank

Wart,

I don't know if he is serious....but I am. I dunno where you are coming from...but unless someone is extremely careless no way in hell is any ash, spark, you name it...is going to miraculously do a reverse Houdini trick and get into a closed container....that said..I know of no one dumb enough to smoke and at the same time load thier powder measure or thier horn.

If he has a spout with a valve on his horn, there is a chance that some powder could remain in the spout after pouring the charge. Not a real high risk of an explosion, but still a chance. :imo:
