We are getting way off topic , however the 23rd were indeed given the Royal title to their status but were never given the right to wear Royal Blue facings on their Regimental coats ,they retained their green facings , when formed a Regiments facing colour was chosen by the patron , when granted Royal status by the King it was not refused just as the granting of Royal Blue facings to coats was not refused .

Your reference to the 2/23 was written by an author not the Battalion OC.
Your reference to the Queens Regiment (the 2nd )is about ceremonial uniform items to be worn (or used, fitted ) on special parades eg. :- royal parades ,receiving the keys to the city , being granted the right to march through their Barracks town with bayonets fixed .

Might be going a little off-topic, but seeing that the OP has long since disappeared it probably doesn't really matter.

My last reply on this matter.

I would be very interested in period documentation on what you have been asserting. Perhaps in a new thread?

There is a period account of the 23rd that does not go along with your assertions. The orders were recorded, are you suggesting the author just made them up? Then how would he have known to add the information about “caps off,” if he was not recording the incident? After all, your assertion is that they did not use them, eh?

Everyone has the right to their own opinions, as to the 23rd, I will take someone who knew them much better during the period.

“I never saw any regiment in such order,” said Wellington before the Battle of Waterloo, “it was the most complete and handsome military body I ever looked at.”

So if they were not a "first line unit," then I doubt any Regiment was.
