Lock bolt placement

I read somewhere that one of the lock plate bolts should be slightly angled. I can't find the reference. Should it be north-south or east-west or slightly both? Which one?
 
I think he means lengthwise.

The locks I've inletted were dictated by the lock plate nose/ nose screw.

That hole/screw needs to fall between the bottom of the barrel and the top of the ramrod. Basically through the web.

A single screw lock plate has a bit more leeway. It can be dipped further in the rear because there's no nose screw.
 
Yes. Lengthwise. Canted up or down or left or right.
I guess it really depends on the lock plate geometry and not hitting the ram rod channel.
I need to dig through my books again.
