I recently purchased a .32 caliber flintlock rifle from a family member; we have no information on the rifle’s history. It came from a gun shop in Athens, Georgia. I’m cleaning it up today and will be posting more photos with a request for assistance in potentially identifying the builder, or even a time frame in which it was built. My question now revolves around the lock. It’s stamped “L. Carver” inside. My research shows that a Leonard Carver owned Carver’s Castings in Missouri and sold locks; unfortunately he died in August of 2019. I’ve also seen where they recently held an auction to sell off his impressive collection. I’m totally ignorant when it comes to flintlocks as this is my first flintlock rifle. I’d like to identify the maker or brand or model of the lock and get help selecting the proper flint size. When my family member purchased the rifle, the flint shown in the photos was in the lock and it had already scratched the barrel. It is also chipped. Any help and knowledge shared is greatly appreciated!
