Just getting (building) my first long rifle, 42" barrel, realized I don't own a case long enough to fit it.
Here in the Peoples Socialist Republic of New Jersey we must have all guns locked up - at all times even in the house, not just in the truck while being transported to the range.

I'm good at home, the gun fits in the safe, but I need a case to bring it to the range.
Saw one for $350, ouch ! There has to be a less expensive way.

Those of you in oppressive states, what do you use ??

Yes, I believe the one by Crazy Crow is the only ‘locking’ (also allegedly airline rated, see to follow) case that is long enough.

That was the only case I found “long enough” to put my 44.3” barreled (measured in pieds/pouce) LH’d custom Fusil de Chasse when we took their private charter plane to head over to Anticosti Island, Quebec.

The case is expen$ive, but I found no other alternative. And get this, the case was never out of my sight until it was actually loaded onto the chartered plane, full of hunters heading to the island … and it still gotta beat to sh#t!

Then I’d buy TWO cheap plastic ‘locking’ cases, and would cut a foot or so off the end of each - save the pieces - and would pop-rivet it all back together.

Maybe add in a few lengths of 1/16” aluminum strip, 3/4” wide, spanning a good 1- 2’ or so into each end.

Yep, that case is six feet long. Figure where it might, or might not, fit in your vehicle. I have a well made case that I used once. Very awkward to handle and heavy. Consider a stocking or soft case for trips to the range.

I made mine out of 1/4" Luan plywood with reinforced wood on the interior, a long piano hinge and two hasps with locks that use the same keys. Some handles on the ends and in the middle for carrying with brass corner protectors. It has held up well. It is lined with structural foam that molds to the gun. I will try to git a picture up of it.

In transporting a $2500 rifle (or 2) to an event, $360 one time expense for a lifetime of use does not seem expensive to me. YMMV.

After you have just in the past few days, purchased a pricey unmentionable for trap shooting, then a pricey case for it, then another BP gun, which needs another pricey case, the whole wife thing starts getting a bit precarious.
At this moment a $20 case is an expensive case.

One long case will do for them all! There is no harm in using a long case for a short gun.
