Greetings,
I am looking for a gun safe that will fit a 58 inch flintlock. Any suggestions?

Wow, that's a loong rifle. I would look for some old school lockers that you can beef up and secure, or an old tall storage cabinet that can be modified for security.

All safe companies make a tall version, mine is 72" tall and would just fit a Kibler with a 46" barrel, I special ordered my safe, it wasn't cheap.

I had to make cutouts in the shelves to accommodate the long barrels.

Looked forever for a safe for my Kibler SMR (ZIP) so I have new book shelfs /cabinets and now need more rifles ,Hidden out of sight and best of all not much more than a high end safe ! And more books to read .Still have a gun safe for the small stuff/Ed

Amen, Bro. Unfortunately, most of us cannot afford a Fort Knox safe. They are the best. FWIW, mine is an economy model from Grizzly tool. I believe it would take a major effort, with pre-planning, to get into it. My long rifle does not fit in the holders but it does reside laying across the interior.

Ok, so a quality gun safe that is tall enough to hold my flintlock is out of my price range right now. Any other options for keeping my guns 'legally' locked up? I'm not as worried about fire as I am about theft. But I don't expect anyone to plan to rob me, and the home invader would have a hard time carrying off a cabinet of some sort with my guns in it. Thoughts?

Years ago I had a lot of over flow long guns that needed secured. Went to Lowes and bought one of the Big long Job Site boxes and some huge locks that go into recess's. Put a layer of my casting lead ingots on the floor of it ( about 400lbs worth) Plus my long guns and stockpiled ammo, comes to about 800lbs and would require a forklift to move. It sits in the back of my un-air conditioned detached metal barn. I have the top carpeted and it looks like a desk top where I keep my manuals open w/ office chair in front next to my Loading Bench. Been there for years in Mississippi humidity and heat in the summer Cold in the winter. I have 2ea Golden Rods inside the power cords just laid over the lip. My humidity gauges inside tell me it never gets over 55% and I'v never had any rust form on anything inside. I think I paid under 400.00 10 years ago probably a little more today.

I don't know if SPIKA are available in the states but their SDD safe which is what I'm upgrading to. It's 60" tall on the internal

I don't care about my modern guns that much, they can be replaced, I bought the safe to house the B/P rifles I built and the ones that were given to me by great friends, losing one of these to theft would be like losing a family member.

I live alone at the end of a dead-end road out in the country, I am gone during the day several times a week. The safe gives me peace of mind, of course the naysayers are first to point out that someone could hook a chain to a fork lift and pull it out of the house through the brick wall. This is not likely where I live, there are no criminals that are organized or determined, I have never even heard of an ATM being snatched out of a business with a chain hooked to a truck in this area.

Although pricy; I special ordered it with a double wall, the outer is 1/4" hardened steel, the inner wall is 12 ga steel, I ordered it with a manual lock because it appears from watching safe cracking videos that the electronic locks are very easy to defeat. This safe weighs 1500#, I have it bolted to 4X4s under the floor joists that are supported by four 15K jacks on concrete blocks in the crawlspace to keep the floor from sagging.

I bought the safe after my wife died 9 years ago and I knew the house would be empty at times, I considered it an addition to the house like having the deck covered, new hardwood floors installed or any other house upgrades, it cost $4K.

Now, if I can just remember to lock it back after I get my toys out to play with them I will be in good shape.

About the Kibler SMR with the 46" barrel and the safe; the Kibler would go in the safe standing straight up unless I put a .32 cleaning jag on the ramrod, this 3/8"" difference made it a no go for fitting in the safe unless the gun was tilted.

WOW, i would have to do a lot of reinforcement for a 1500lb plus safe!!!! I might try reinforcing the "room" and installing a heavy duty metal door/frame with vault type lock. They are available. Only a true professional will have the tools ,ability and determination to break into a decent safe or safe room. The average crook is not going to try it(IMHO) because they know it would be too difficult and fraught with problems etc. My parents lived in a very nice area, and their home was robbed broad daylight. Police said it was a professional crew, probably4-5, with radios, look outs etc. They said two would go in the house, less than 4 mins, take everything of value(money, jewelry, only) and be gone. The house looked untouched, nothing broken etc. When my parents called the cops to come, the front door (steel) was still in the frame, locked, but buckled, laying in the front yard....the cops said it was a new technique they were seeing , The crooks used "the jaws of Life" designed to crush, cut through cars etc...and crushed the entire door/frame and pulled it out. They said the whole job was probably less than 5-8 min.s!! In out gone. Parents lost considerable $$ that day, never recovered anything.
