No votes for Museum Wax?
For 'long term' storage I would think it a reasonable choice, just clean out when ready to shoot again. I think it has silicon in it.

If you were going to put a muzzleloader away for a long period of time, lets say three years, what oil or grease is the best for rust prevention? I am not looking for heaters or other preventers, just the best oil or grease for the barrel and steel parts.
Guessing you are having corrosion issues or lack confidence in whatever product you are using.

Personally, prefer and have had the best success in muzzleloaders with products that dry to a protective film, even if not the best in a salt spray test. Think Barricade or Eezox. No oily film or accumulated puddles of the petroleum type stuff that needs to be removed before loading. Currently all stocked up with Eezox, so that is my favorite of the day. Never a bit of corrosion or fouled loads here in the humidity of the Piedmont of North Carolina while using a dry film corrosion protectant in a properly cleaned muzzleloader bore. And property cleaned is worth repeating. Any rust preventative put on top of a poorly cleaned bore surface is going to fail.

I experimented with a lot of things, and lanoline is what came on top for rust-protection. There is anhydrous lanoline available, should be even better than the straight stuff.

FWIW I work on outboard motors used in saltwaters and I've seen Boeshield T9 cause dynamic parts to stop moving!

Yes, they sure were protected well against corrosion ... but durn it, the parts were supposed to be able to move too! I cannot recommend its use on any moving parts ...
