I use my long rifles to hunt, I use them on the ground in stands and in blinds, the hardest part for me is the lack of slings, but I still manage to climb into a stand with it, it's just part of the added challenge.

Something I've used as a simple temporary sling going up and down trees when I used tree stands was this...a few feet of heavy duty 2" wide nylon web strap from an Army surplus store...soft and smooth webbing, not the stiff rough scratchy kind.

I figured out what finished length I needed including the amount for the loops”¦cut it, melted the ends, had a shoe shop fold back and stitch a loop at each end. Then I just pushed the long run of strap inside out at each loop so they each become a simple 'cinch knot’.

Slip in on and cinch them snug...up the tree you go...then remove the sling and stuff it in a pocket...slip it back on for the climb down.
