I hope this is not breaking the rules about advertising .

Having owned many , and having built 3 ML. , I have as many "rifles" as I need {for now !!}

I have a stock that's been setting for several years now , never completed . Its cut for a "golden age " 44" B weight Bbl.

I'm thinking of using it to build a smoothy . Question is , does anyone know a shop that would make a 44" "b" weight in 54 smooth bore.

The waist of the barrel should be thick enough for this , but don't know who might be willing to do it.

Thanks for your help----Doc

"b" weight barrel?? :confused:
I hope I'm not too old to admit I don't know everything.
Almost 42 years at this ml game and I have never heard of a reference to ml barrels like that. :confused:
What does it mean? (I tried a quick search, could not find anything)

Most barrel mfgs use four weights or profiles: a, b, c or d. Cheaper and easier that having a different bar stock for each caliber or sticking a .32" bore in the same blank a .58" rifle uses.

That way, you can specify ".50 on a B" and get a lighter barrel than ".50 on a C". ".50 on an A" would be a relatively light rifle.

BUT - as far as I know the designations are not consistant from manufacturer to manufacturer. And swamped profiles complicate things as length changes the profile as well. Straight barrels you just specify the width between flats.

A,B,C weights refer to the external measurments of swamped barrels. "A" being the lightest. The problem is the demensions of one manufactuer's "A" weight barrel won't always match the demensions of another's. Or at least that is how I understand it...
