Looking for a starter flintlock $400-500 range. Will I find anything good at that price?

Thanks for the tips. I’ve been scoping around the internet for deals and one of the reasons I asked this question in the thread is I haven’t really seen what I’m lookin for anywhere even after a while so I figured I need to change what I’m lookin for or my budget
Couple months ago I bought a .58 Investarms Hawken left hand. Looked for yrs. got one on here it's a 1996 never been shot, about mint. Looked for .58 pistol to match. No luck even thought of buying a .54 and having it bored out to .58. Look, look, wait, wait. The guy that pulls the Texas scam on here contacted me but he disappeared when asked for a picture of the bore. So I ran into the deal for the .50 and jumped on it. You never know how it'll turn out. I'm happy and now I'll see .58's for sale everywhere ha ha.

Just the way I went about it . . .

Found a flintlock Traditions Deerhunter for 100. Seems to go bang every time.
Replaced the plastic stock with wood for 10.
Then got a 31" long drop-in fifty smoothbore tapered octagonal to round barrel for it. Been too long so I'm not sure how much that cost. But once handling it I found the light weight and length were really very nice. I'm certain that a suitably tapered forty bore rifled barrel would handle the same.
Still have the original rifle barrel and it might become a longer tapered small bore.

What do y’all think of this one for a starter? (Please don’t swoop in an get it if it’s good 😆) I might pull the trigger on it today it comes with a bunch of extras too.
There is what is said and what is. I wouldn't buy it as it looks ugly and a putting a cartridge case on the ram rod tells me that he didn't want to put money into the rifle. I have never seen a 1/88 inch twist, I believe that it is a 1/66. Have you checked Gun Broker?

I'd ask for more clear pictures to see what the lock, stock and barrel look like.

I’m just not gonna do it. Agree with the above post and sent this to some friends I have and all have agreed it’s a pass.

Are you ok with kit guns? Ive seen Lymans for around 600 in kit form.
I have never built one or really have much space to work on one. I’m not against them just this stage of my life I don’t think I could do it well

I wouldn't let that stop you. I live in a 5th wheel and my first rifle was a Traditions St. Hawken Kit I built. Granted it was a percussion rifle but it wasn't hard to build and took up very little space. I did have to buy a Workmate bench that I could fit a vice on but that's about the only big extra. And it was a lot of fun since I've also built a Lyman Great Plains Signature Rifle also and have a Kibler SMR on order. All being built in the 5th Wheel.
