Does anyone know of a source for a gang mould? I am trying to put together a hands on display and demonstration in reguards to round ball casting. I would like a mould larger than 4. Thanks for any help.

I have been at this game for awhile but have never came across the term normalized as used in relationship to the gang molds that cannon mike sells. Can someone enlighten me.

My guess is that he is reheating to relieve the stresses in the steel from machining the mould and then checking to make sure that the ball cavities are still round.

It's a little hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like the Smiling Fox mold casts four different sizes of balls. The inner cavity looks a lot smaller then the outer cavity.
The text just says, "These molds were reproduced from original molds. These are great for doing demonstrations or for using them in your shooting bags. .610 .575 .533 .500". So is it four size balls from one mold then? That's what it appears to be.
I think I like the CannonMike molds. Since you have options on the size of the musket ball and shot cavities in the one gang mold.

Jack,

The Smiling Fox's mould's look more primitive, but the inside of the cavities look frosted. These would likely need to be cherried out larger in order to be of any use. At $39.00 that might not be so bad, but the $95.00 price at Canon Mike's looks pretty good for a finished quality product. You might need to do some metal work to ease the modern look.
