Well The persona I eventually want to portray is an ancestor who was Anglo but spent a lot of time among the Lenape in the Lackawaxen area of the upper Deleware R. The bag I would be making would be for my son. I am also building him his first rifle for Christmas. I figure the more I can build myself the more special it will be. :)
Then you are in luck - a bag is probably the easiest thing to make. Think small (8x8" max), square/rectangular/D-shaped, with/without a gusset, sewn with linen/hemp and a strap (I'd suggest a buckle) - bag is done....

looking for a shooting bag for my new gun. looked at totw, traditions, the possible shop. is there any good sources im missing to look at.
Grey bear. I just got my new bag. It took 9 months to get but well worth the wait.

Considering that making a bag is quite simple and it took me about 3 hours to make the bag I now use, 9 months seems a little much....
Don't let the date-stamp fool you, this bag was made about 10 years ago and is still going strong.

This little bag has been with me for 30+ years. I made it out of very light weight and supple calf. The leather is only 1.50 mm thick. The bag is single piece, front and lower back with doubled thickness on the flap which is on the inside. There is a single piece divider and a small hanging pouch for RB's on the inside back. The bag started life as a shoulder bag with woven strap, leather fixtures and forged buckle with horn, and pick/brush attachments on the strap.

At a point long ago I decided to make it a hanging belt bag and that is what you see today. I am going to return it to a shoulder bag this winter.

The small leather bag contains 6-8 flints and white cloth bag holds Tow. The round metal cap tin hides my earplugs...

There are just about as many different bags out there as there are people carrying them. And there are a bunch of amazing folks, many of them on this forum making them so you don't have to settle for a ready made bag of ok, or in some cases, mediocre quality. If you can possibly stretch the budget a little, and you really don't want to make your own, I suggest doing a little research first and them consider the the makers who's links i'm including below. I have a bag made by T. C. Albert and one made by Darrell Lang. Both are one of a kind and IMHO museum quality and neither cost me an arm and a leg. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth...Mick C

Here's the two bags I referred to. The top one is by T. C. Albert and the bottom by Darrell Lang.

My first shooting bag was a lady’s purse kit from Tandy. It was very plain and simple, but it was a little large.
Years later I saw Tandy was selling a kit to make a black powder shooting bag (this bag kit is no longer available). I still use this one but I found it a little small and cramped because of the tapered side gusset.

I think the best bag is the one you design yourself that fits the unique stuff you carry.

I’m thinking of making a new bag, this time starting from inside and working out by organizing the inventory for just the few basic items required to load and fire the rifle 6 times. Each item stored in custom taylored sleeve within the shooting bag.
All other items would be stored in the much larger possibles bag. My current possibles bag is is a repurposed fly fishing bag.

When I deer hunt with my flint rifle I can shoot four times without even going into the bag. And I never have needed more than a single reload. I have gone out for a half-day hunt with nothing but the rifle and horn with measure hung from the neck of the horn and three-shot ball block on the horn strap.

The shooting bag has fixings for more shots and the bits required to clean the rifle.

My smoothbore I can go six round-ball reloads with the paper cartridges in a single Altoids tin in my pocket. No horn. But I still carry a bag because you never know when a flint may need attention.

You may buy your first bag, but after that you will make the rest of your bags, and everything else. I thought it was difficult but I bought my first bag in kit form from October Country, I’ve hand made everything after that.

Building a bag is not difficult. There are books out there with good pics and measurements. Check them out and then look for the leather or fabric you want to use. Really early stuff is pretty simple.... its rectangular from top to bottom and no gusset.

Look around. You may be surprised .......

If you want to buy one figure on spending a bit of money but, if you are observant, you will end up with a nice bag.....

Totally agree. We don't need to nit pick. Besides, I don't hunt, therefore my bags are shooting bags.

It was not meant to nit pick, if you go back to the first few posts you will see a little confusion. My post was intended to help the OP. If you Google shooting bags you will only find the bags used as rests on a bench. I might ask why comment on a post that was almost an aside to the original topic and was made over 3 months ago? :)

I didn't look at the date of the OP. And my comment was more a knee jerk reaction to some of other recent threads. The point that in my hast to type was obviously not well make is that when no clarification is needed why clarify? No offence was intended.
