I am trying to make a nice online collection of wheelocks and similar guns. Problem isi'mhaving trouble finding the pictures. Tried google images and some others but just can'tfind anything.

Any help is appreciated.

I started to make a full list of all my resources, but accidentally erased it when I forgot to switch tabs on my web browser. I'll try to get it re-done, but in the meantime, why can't you find anything? What searches are you using?

Wheellocks are spelled wheelocks (incorrect spelling, but often used), wheellocks, wheel-locks, and wheel locks, and that's just the english searches. I'm sure you can find a bunch of pictures if you search enough. I originally found this site by searching for them.

One thing I'd recommend is to make sure you contact everyone for permission before using their materials (pictures, content, etc.) for a website.

Here it goes again:

As I said, there are many sources for wheellock info and pictures. I highly recommend you seek permission before using any of the following for your website.

Books:
Wheellock Firearms of the Royal Armouries Perhaps my absolute favorite source of wheellock pictures! Worth every penny!

Videos:
PISTOLS OF THE 1600S - A VIDEO - this video claims to show a few wheellocks, including a disassembly and discussion of how they work. I haven't seen it, but I'm tempted to order it.

Auction Houses:
These can be some of the best places to find original weapons, and often they have high quality images and full descriptions.
James D Julia - A number of fine antique wheellocks in old auction catalogs.
Antique Arms
Gregg Martin Auctions - An elaborately decorated puffer for a boy.
Gregg Martin Auctions - Antique musket lock.
Gregg Martin Auctions - Antique Wheellock key.
Hermann-Historica
Czernys - Auctioner of fine firearms, including many wheellocks!
Hessink

Antique Gun Dealers:
There aren't a lot of antique gun dealers that sell pre-flint, but like auction houses, they can be a great resource.
Henry Krank - A handful of fine antique wheellocks - and they can be yours...for a price!
Magazin Royal
Peter Finer - Don't expect to own any of these unless you've got the resources of the Smithsonian.
Paul M. Ambrose - None currently available, but pictures are.
Hunters Hyline Kennel - I have no idea how I first came across this - it's not a dealer, but a kennel that took in a wheellock as payment for a bill, and is trying to sell it.

Museums:
There are many wheellocks held in museums. Very few museums put pictures of their holdings online, but some do!
Statens Forsvarshistoriske Museum - I can't read this site, but I sure like the pictures!
The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Online pictures are low res, but they sell a cd!
Leger Museum - No pictures, just descriptions. You may want to contact the curator for possible pictures.

Reproduction manufacturers:
Armin Konig - Perhaps the current builder of the absolute finest reproductions available. All of his guns are exact reproductions of originals he has direct access to. I sent him a request for information, and he sent me a full color catalog of various guns he's made, and a list of the additional originals he has access to.
Osvaldo Gatto - While not pictured on his site, if you go through his videos, you'll see a wheellock he made from scratch, and he'll make one for you too!
Armart A Czech repro maker offering a paddle butt stocked musket.
Fort Comanche Frontier Firearms - This page has the sideplate of one of their customer built wheellocks.
John Buck - Well known builder of matchlocks also makes wheellocks - at very reasonable prices!
Albion Small Arms - I'm pretty certain this company is out of business, but their website still has pictures of 2 locks and one pistol.
Ray Morris - This maker doesn't claim to make functional weapons, but does claim the actions work. He's recently retired, but still takes on projects occasionally.
A2armory - A toy wheellock repro (normally wouldn't includde this, but I included the prior one).
Pancerni - I honestly don't know what this site is. I can't read a bit of it, but it's got some nice pictures of what appear to be repros, complete with accoutrements.

Parts suppliers:
The Rifle Shoppe - A few of their parts sets have pictures online. I don't have their catalog, but there's apparently more pictures available in it as well.
Steve Bookout - Step by step build of musket made of TRS parts.
Blackley and Son - UK competitor to TRS, though they only sell lock sets.

Other Informative Websites:
Leonardo Da Vinci's Codice Atlantico - original drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci - I can't find the direct links to the drawings associated with the wheellocks, but you can find them here.
Feuerwaffen - The Radschloß - info and pic of the origin of the wheellock.
Feuerwaffen - Original lock duplicated for reproduction musket.
Silcom Info on the wheellock with animated graphic.

Of course, you could also do the obvious - ask the wheellock builders here for pictures and permission to use them!

Yeah, hey, wheellockhunter,
you can use any pictures of mine that you want to. But realize they are not reproductions of anything, just my tinkering.

try the following terms: "arquebuse à rouet" this should lead you to some french sites showing different models

Hello Quewalda
I had the privalege to drive around Belguim back in 1974. Beautiful country and the people I met were #1 !

Ron Ruble Enterprises, a dealer in ol' crotch stuff, has a German wheellock mechanism for sale. Around $1700. That Panceri book is Polish and being a Polack who can't really read any of his Polish printed gun collection books, I should know. There are several Polish gun books available at a store in my area and others show up on ebay. They also feature firearms of that geographic region including Persia and the Ottoman empire.

Misionero5155,
Do a search on my handle and wheellocks. That should get you there. I would hope that many of the pics are still there.
