Would a loose barrel rib have negative effect on your rifles accuracy?
I ask because I am breaking in a new barrel which had very good groups to start with and the past two range sessions it was shooting eradically.
Yesterday while cleaning I noticed the rib was loose. All four screws were loose and the rib could be wiggled easily.
I tightened it down so I guess I'll see if it makes a difference next shooting session.

If the screw come loose can you put some locktite on the screws? Where you shooting bound balls without a patch? If you were, the bore could be leaded and it won't shoot very good. I know because I had a slug bench gun that I slipped a Chase patch and it leaded the barrel.

In theory yes. In my small bore competition days we would have mini-torque wrenches when puting our barrels back into the stock. A few pounds off made a big differnce. Not sure about your case but it makes sense. :hmm:

I'm not sure if this is relevent, but I had the same sorta problem with my truck.....there was a nut loose behind the wheel and the dang thing drove all over the place! :shocked2: :haha: :haha:

.....Sorry.....I just couldn't resist.
