I’ve balked a few times at getting a repro Ferguson; I’m on my fourth military gun from TRS; the 1817. One thing about the Ferguson I could never understand was why not use a steel rammer, it would have allowed for more wood to be retained in the forestock, the rammer could have also been much lighter than say a Brown Bess rammer.

The Baker may have been the largest issue rifle. But the Pre Baker Prince Eugine rifles some 1,012 being made in Germany for his Regiment was paid for by Ordnance in 1799 or so .28" Oct brl with a bore taking a 600 cal ball .With B net bar some 6 still in the Royal Armouries & I own one number 174 .Each had its rifle & B net number engraved by the muzzle .They look very like the well known Pistor rifle but this was a basic Jager style. Should any reader have or knows of just such a rifle Ide be pleased to share my research with him (or her) all interesting stuff I have dealt with Royalist arm over many years and found them notably helpful and dedicated suppliers of Indian Arms . And I am well aware of the shennanikins of Indian gunmakers !. Regards Rudyard

I am thinking about a replica Baker “rifle”. There don’t appear tp be many options on the market. It would appear that “Loyalist Arms” is one of the few favorably regarded importers.
1. Does anyone have one of these guns?
2. If so, what is your opinion of it?
3. And’ how is Loyalist Arms todesl with?
I currently own nothing but custom built rifles and muskets but as I said, Loyalist seems like the only reasonably priced option for a replica Baker.
PS. Watched too much “Sharp’s Rifles!
All responses welcome.
SS:

I have one that is almost brand new and will sell it to you if you are interested. Contact me via private message and we can work out the details.

Baker's original rifling should come with a warning sticker on the box... :)
