1 lb. bees wax /1 lb. Vaseline / 1 TBS STP / mix together, hot, add a color crayon to give lube color. Can be used as hot pan lube or as a cold lube

Been doing research since I came into possession of a like new 1863 Remington contract rifle. It's an early Jager Armi replica. Bore is.577 1 in 22 twist. Large arms manuel I have printed in the 1860s calls for a mix of 60% beeswax and 40% mutton tallow. Any one have experience with this mix for minie balls? I got the ingredients together last fall, but have been laid up since then and haven't had the chance to try it out.

For Tallow ,in U.K. I buy tallow from Screwfix.Sold in 500grm containers for lubricating Screw threads. I use 1/3rd Bees Wax to 2/3rds Hard Tallow from ScrewFix mixed in a Beef Pie tin filled to canalur depth and bullets dunked in cold and set aside on cold steel plate to cool. Leaves the bases without lube mix..
Bleached Bees wax was bought years ago from a Drysalters who were closing down. I bought 8lds in 1oz tablets and still have some. The last Beef Tallow from a butchers was eaton by Mice. I no longer use my 8mm "Mowser". It makes too much mess of de "Mowes" and hurts my pooly shoulder.O.D.

I haven't used that mixture, but it's not unlike what most have described. It would certainly be a good lube to start with and see how your rifle likes it.
