I know this is not to traditional but It is my first flint in a long time. I need the recoil pd to help with arthritis in my shoulders. It sure is a well made gun. wood to metal fit is great. I hope it shoots as good as it looks

I had a caplock in .50 cal and used it for about 15 years, with over 30 whitetails downed by it. They are great rifles for hunting, I hope you like your as much as I liked mine. I would have had one in .54, but they didn't have any in stock and I thought the Trade rifle was interesting.

Mine is a great shooter with 90 grains of Goex 3f, .530 ball and ticking patch.
Ignition is very fast with Goex 4f for prime.

The Deerstalker is the same gun I just picked up from Lyman's website. Fortunately for me, they had a "factory second" Leftie for a song, so I jumped on it. Turned out (so far) that the only thing wrong with it was a couple of small dings in the stock, of which I'm sure I'll add to in the woods. I'm looking forward to shooting it later this week.

Odinbreaker,
I've had mine for close to 7 years now.Not hardly traditional but it is a Flintlock and I do shoot Patched Roundballs out of it.Haven't killed a Deer with mine yet(Most days afield up here is too rainy and sloppy in November)But have killed mountains of paper.Mine shoots good with 70 grains of 3f ,.490 ball,.020 ticking patch.

I have not had the time to shoot this rifle Just fondleit I am sure it doesn't mind. We have 2 feet of snow and -20 wind chill today so it will be a while before I start shooting. I am just starting to clean the factory preservtives from the barrel.
I think this will be an excellent gun I hope the paper hold still long enough for me to hit it. It is
a 54 cal 1x48 twist I have RB and a 405 maxi mould to try :v
