Hello from Germany!

I'm planing to buy a Lyman Deerstalker from D+R.
any suggestions to this rifle?

Regards

Kirrmeister

They are short, light, and easy to carry. The sights are nice too. I have one in flintlock. It shoots great with 90 grains of Goex 2F, .535 ball, and pillow ticking patch.

I used one in .50 cal for about 16 years and it filled the freezer very well. I started using .490 balls and 15th pillow ticking. Then I tried everything I could stuff down the hole. The last several years I ended up shooting a .495 ball 15th patch and 80g of Pyrodex rs. The rifle shot a lot of bullets quite well, but I liked the performance I got with the round balls.

Mine is a 54. Shoots 2" at 50 yds consistently. It swings and points easily for my 5'-10" 210 body. Load is 90 gr FFF, .535 ball, .018 patch.

It is a very comfortable rifle.

Looks like you are starting to get carried away with this muzzlelading thing  Do you have any pistols yet?

Get it in 54 cal I have 2 one flint one percussion great guns and good shooters.

I bought a 54 caliber flintlock deerstalker 2 weeks ago. After I figured out how to get rid of the delay in firing, it is amazingly accurate. 1 1/2" groups at 50 yards off a bench.

I liked it so much I bought a 54 Lyman trade rifle today. Upon taking out the touch hole liner on the trade rifle to clean out the preservative however, I discovered the threads are badly mangled from the factory. Tomorrow I will make a 5/16" UNF touchole liner and drill and tap the gun for it. I was going to use 1/4x28 but the existing hole is a bit too large.
