In the owners manual they state with new lymans to clean and leave set overnight with a good solvent.
Question is:
What have you used to do this?
They give no suggetion of what solvent to use.
Thanks

I've used disk brake cleaner, out side, but did not leave it over night,do not get on wood.

Are you talking about a new gun?

I have used solvent only when removing the factory preservative from a new bore. I have used mineral spirits and Break Free with success. IMHO neither one will harm the bore overnight.

Brake cleaner available at auto parts stores. It evaporates quickly so it wouldn't do anything if left over night. :hmm: It will clean the packing junk off easily but you still need to run clean patches in the bore and oil it.

When I bought mine a few months ago my manual said WD40, so that is what I used and had no problems.

The goal is to remove all the heavy packing grease the factory manages to get into every nook and cranny.

Any light petroleum distillate will dissolve out a heavier one.

Ordinary old fashion Hoppes #9 will do, or any other commercial gun cleaning solvent.

Brake cleaner, acetone, MEK, lighter fluid etc... will all work faster just don't let any of these harsh solvents get on the wood stock or the finish will be damaged.

You will find that no matter how much time you spend cleaning the rifle the first time, subsequent cleaning will still be removing that brown packing protectant the factory applied to the steel parts.

Read the MSDS on Break cleaners. Not good for the body, make sure you have good ventelation outside, and keep it off the skin.
