Does anybody know if the lyman gp pistol and rifle lock interchange? ( Was interested in a lyman pistol if I could get a aftermarket lock ( L&R)

No they do not. The GPP uses a smaller size lock. If you don't mind my asking, why do you want to swap the lock out? I never had a problem with the stock lock in my GPP.

A friend of mine is moving ( out of the country) andso I bought all his muzzleloading spare parts... one is a lyman gp pistol in 50 with no lock and I was kind of fond of the pistol. I am thinking of getting a aftermarket flintlock, and change the breechplug to flint....
However might be just better to just restock in the first place...and just salvage some parts...

:hmm: New flint lock, new stock, new breechplug... :surrender:
Might as well get a new barrel and trigger and hardware while you're at it and just build a new flint pistol. Just my opinion...

Well, if the "new" lock will fit the old stock, the only thing I need is a plug and as I have a lathe and mill, this is not a problem. I think I just feel more comfortable to work with the existing parts and learn a bit more about building muzzleloaders by modifing existing " guns" than jumping into it by building one from the ground up.

A Buddy and I have both written to Lyman, suggesting that the pistol be offered in flint. Not even a note or e-mail saying we appreciate the suggestion.

More power to ya PHI. I always wished they had a flint version too.

I'm no machinist. Could you make a pan and frizzen fit on a stock percussion lock? Then just change the hammer to a flint cock?
