Well this pneumonia I have is hell, but I finally got my but out and put the gun together. The nose cap tightened up when the barrel went into the stock. Maybe that is the reason why the booger is made that way. :hmm:

The wood I ended up lightening the finish up some and it looks very good. I rupped the stock down with alcohol real good. I then got some 0000 steel wool and rupped it down again. I cleaned off the residue and then used Balestol and I can now see the wood grain and it actually looks very nice.

Why the hell do ya think the guys at InvestArms put so much stain on the wood? I understand that European walnut is not as pretty as American walnut, but it is not that bad that it needs all that stain!

As far as the butt plate not fitting to the wood good I think I can live with that and eventually fix it myself. I will still begetting with Lyman and register a complaint to let them know what they are bringing into the country and selling under their name. I just hope this gun ends up being a shooter after all the :bull: I have gone through!

Me and the guy I work with, both ordered flint kits from them a couple of years ago. Mine finished out great, however,he had several problems with his. He called them and they hand selected him new parts for a perfect fit and nice stock.

I had forgotten the deal on the forend cap on my kit. It was loose too, but I glass bedded it, while also using a release compound so I could pull it off. I then redrilled the pin hole to clear it up and get good alignment.

I put the release agent on it because to the best of my assessment, when the tip was seated correctly the barrel channel was a little proud. I didn't want to do all the filing while it was on the stock, so I pulled it off for filing and fitting.

In the end I mounted it and left it there while cleaning and tapering the wood on the forend. Got a nice clean transition between wood and metal by the time I was done. Then I removed it for browning while I finished the stock.

Seems tight as if it was glued in place, but drive out the pin, and it will still pull off.
