Great to hear of your new found rifle.
When you get it be sure to clean the barrel very well.
Brake cleaner is a good solvent, but don't let it touch your wood.....it will peal the finish off your stock.
Many buyers of this rifle complain about the long break in that they have to do.
Well the maker of this rifle has a magical bore preservative that will resist almost any amount of shooting or soap and water scrubbing.
Twenty to thirty scrubs of common break cleaner will rid your barrel of the company's bore preservative.
Have fun and show us how well it shoots.

Hello Hylander,
You know of course, now that you got that fine rifle, it won"t be complete without the pistol.
Duh....as if you needed me to tell you that.
This manure is addictive.
I did notice in the company's pictures they had the Lyman rifle with aperture sights, does it come that way.......if so bonus, although not PC correct, those sights will show you how well that rifle shoots.
The traditional sights are fine and period correct, but the period sight will not let you shoot the potential of the rifle.
I really can stir the pot

Too late to influence your purchase, but I love my GPR in .54 cal. One disadvantage - if you run out of 0.50 supplies (ball, jag, etc.) you can run to any number of stores and grab a replacement. 54 is harder to find, mail order is the general source. So have two of everything. You are gonna like the gun!

Friend you made a great choice. Mine is a joy:

I have a pair of cap locks in .50 into 54. As well as matching plains pistols. They are absolutely wonderful rifles. In fact my 50 is a 1-32 fast twist and shoots patched roundball just as well as my 54 slow twist??

That is a sharp looking rifle Smokey Plainsman. I have been considering buying a .50 caliber Great Plains Rifle myself.

When you start shooting groups on paper, please let us know how well it groups at 50 yards, 100 yards, etc.
