Did you ever watch a rebuild of a Gemmer Hawken kit by Bob Woodfill on YouTube?

He went step by step on everything he done to achieve a nice looking Hawken that he was going to present to a young boy to take on an Elk hunting trip.

He explained everything that he did to achieve a beautiful Hawken rifle just as you did.

Again, you did a fabulous job to achieve a Hawken that anyone would carry in the woods or present.

At the risk of driving some Hawken purists crazy, I love that you rounded off all the sharp corners on the wood. I've heard em scream about how inauthentic that is, and I don't care. If I had a real Hawken in the 1850's, the 1st thing I would have done is just that, and then given it some serious spar varnish or oil rub finish. The sharp edges on stocks are the 1st places the finish fails and lets water soak in to swell a stock. Not a practical feature at all. In fact, it always looked like a short cut to me, that became fashionable over time.

here are a few crummy photos I took on my porch, it has been raining here. this is a Lyman 54 caliber GPR i rebuilt over the last couple of weeks. I had it for sale but nobody wanted it. so, I made it into an authentic fake Hawken! I completely stripped everything! all the metal, I scrubbed all the sickening righting off the barrel except for the sel, # and date code underneath by draw filing the barrel. I reshaped the stock, especially the cheek rest. I took a pound of wood off this thing! I colored the wood and sealed it. I added a Hawken simi buck horn rear site. I don't know if this gun had ever been shot it was so clean, so i did! I zeroed it in at 50 yds. 75gr. of 2f it sings a pretty tune. I will take some better photos when the weather is better. i might sell this one but I don't have to and I like it. but if somebody is interested send pm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Looks good- the one thing I always hated on the GPR was the “belly” on the line from the trigger guard to the to plate- always made them look pregnant.

Olskol, I as well do like what you have done to your Lyman Great Plains rifle. I wish firearms could be made without all the warnings, but companies hire lawyers to protect their assets. This is just one way
they protect the companies solvency. Dont like it, but must live with it. Anyway great job, it is a looker.
