Just got my Great Plains Rifle last night (new)and started to wipe it down and noticed a small crack in the front of the lock assembly. I took the lock assy. out and it doesn't look like it's deep. It's the weekend so I'll try calling Lyman Monday. I'm sure with all the GPR's out there someone has had dealing with their warranty dept. Have you had good or bad experiences and what about turn around times.

Never dealt with them but once. I needed a new stock after mine broke which was my fault. they are not designed to take falls. I explained it too them an they sent me one in less than a week at no charge. This was about 15 yrs ago so maybe they aint changed none

My experience with them was not so positive. They are not Thompson Center. :(

I've had nothing but terrific experiences the few times I've needed them. Same for all the folks in the broad circle I shoot with. Very few needs, but always first class service as good or better than TC. Why "better" than TC? Because in the two instances replacement stocks were needed, they hand-picked ones with spectacular figure and sent along their apologies. I can't say I ever got such a fine replacement stock from TC.

Just call them. Turn around is always quick.

They treated me very good. I bought a used Deerstalker that would not spark. The guy sold it because it would not spark for him.
I wrote Lyman explaining that I purchased it used, because it wouldn't spark for the original owner, and realized I had no warranty rights.I explained what I had done to determine the frizzen was at fault. They sent me a new frizzen no charge. Now it sparks like the 4th of July.

Can't beat that for customer relations.

Once I lost one of the barrel wedges out of my GPR while hunting. It was totally on me. I called Lyman to order a new wedge. I told them how I lost it. They sent me one, free of charge. I don't know if it's true, but I read in another forum that T/C was having problems. The fellow said that he sent in an older T/C for warrenty work. The rifle was sent back unrepared. When he called T/C, they told him that they no longer houor thr warrenty on rifles made before 1989. Hopefully, some one here will have more info on this. If this is the case, I don't know how T/C can justify such a high price without a "life time warrenty". Lyman looks better and better.

I bought a used GPR a while back and needed the screws that hold the plates (I know there's a name for these, just can't think of it right now) onto the stock where the keys go through, so I called, ready to pay for them and they shipped them to me free of charge.

I sent in my 1979 TC Flinter's lock for the lock upgrade and received the replacement in less than two weeks during an anticipated 1 month backlog. I would not call that bad service on a faily old rifle. Lymans seem to be nice rifles but I wouldn't base a choice on a lack of warranty on TC's part

I am sure if you take a close-up picture of the crack and forward it to Lyman's customer service dept. you will get an authorization to return for factory repair or replacement.
You will be impressed with their policy.
And most likely you will be pleased with the new stock!
Best regards
Old Ford

They did the same thing for me. They also shipped me the frizzen screw which I stripped

T.C. was bought out a while back. The new owners may not uphold the T.C. lifetime warrenty. But my and my friends experience with T.C. has been GREAT :idunno: :idunno:

Abut 6 months ago I broke the tumbler in my renegade, I called Thompson Center to see if I could order a new part. The represenitive gave me the information to send the lock back, and it was repaired free of charge and returned to me in less than 2 weeks. I explained how I broke the lock and that I was not the original owner, but he told me the rifle had a life time warranty.

A friend bought a new GPR after shooting mine. It wouldn't go off most of the time and took 2 or 3 caps to get it to go. He sent it back to Lyman and they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it. He had to pay the shipping both ways. I took it apart and found a steel burr in the hole from the nipple to the combustion chamber after I drilled it out the rifle shot flawlessly. They never even looked at it. I'll never buy another one.

That aint rite!!!!! I had no problems dealing with T/C, The only thing was when this happened to me the customer service was closed to the public, they were only taking LEO emergencies(S&W police issue). I had to wait for almost a week for them to open cs to the general public, they were shut down for the move to S&W, after I contacted them the whole process took about 2 weeks (8 busisness days if I remember correctly). My only out of pocket expense was shipping to T/C, they paid return shipping.

Well I called Lyman and wasn't real happy with their response. They said to send it all back and they would determine whether it was abuse or not. I explained the rifle was brand new and never left the house but to no avail. Also it would be a minimum of 3 weeks turn around and I would have to pay shipping both ways. Needless to say I was very unhappy. I emailed the company I bought it from and within a few hours I got a reply saying to send it back and they would replace it. It's been just over a week and I got my new rifle today. A big THANK YOU to the folks at Third Generation Shooting Supply for the great customer service and making me a happy customer.

I had a problem about 15 or so years ago.(WOW...how time flys) Anyway, I was trying to take out the little cleaning screw on the side of the bolster. Long story short, I messed it up. Tried to drill and tap it out. Drilled it, put in tap and the tap snapped off! It was sticking out of my gun with no way for me to get it out. :shocked2: This is about a week before deer season. I called Lyman and explaind want happend. I sent them the gun. They fixed MY mistakes and sent it back to me NO CHARGE... And in time for my deer season...Now THAT is GREAT customer service. I haven't had to deal with them lately though. I hope it's still as good.
