Yeah you need patience and the right temps to produce oil otherwise you end up with bear crisco. :haha:

Try it Buford, I know there is a member or two who render Marmot oil for patch lube. Can't see why coon wouldn't work.

I actually haven't tried them Stump. They look good and figure they'd be addictive and I'm sure they can't be very good for the cholesterol. :haha: Others have said they eat them though.

And possum or armadilla for that matter. We've got our share around here! Render the fat, give the meat to the dogs.

Nothing beats bear fat for the long shelf life though.

with the lard i tried 60-40 with bees wax and a touch of murfys oil for my maxis, great stuff best stuff yet and super for dry hands.
Next year,i will try to get much more.
its worth the time.

:hmm: You got a tube of something that rode a long with Sue but my uncle snuck it in there and I don't know if its the stiffer older grease or the newer stuff we use now. But anyway, let me see what I end up with, then we'll talk!

I got lucky and got a sample of both the grease lube and the oil a couple years ago.
Great stuff!

I've been real stingy with the grease lube and still have about half the tin left. The oil just seems to last forever! A little bit goes a very long way. It's all I've used to oil my locks since I got it and I still have 3/4s of the bottle. I just dip a q-tip in and it does the whole lock. Then I squeeze the q-tip with a patch and oil my barrel.

Thanks again Swampy. :hatsoff:

I gotta say, I wondered if the cracklin's were good eatin' too. I can eat a whole bag of pork rinds in a single sitting. I don't do it very often tho. It can't be good for ya. My wife can't even stand to watch. :haha:

Use it up Jethro, time for new.

I know what you mean about pork rinds. Don't know about you but my chest seems to tighten up when I eat them. :rotf: Thats why I really don't want to get into eating these. I did chew on one last year because I was told about how good they are and remember thinking it needed salt because it was pretty bland to me... :idunno:

I think that's why the bags aren't bigger than they are. :haha:

I was thinkin' a little BBQ rub sprinkled on while they're still hot.

Has anyone ever tried to render raccoon fat to make oil? How would this be for oil?
It should work just fine; raccoons are in the bear family.

Sue came with a pretty big tub labeled 60:40 hunting blend.

I'd love to get some pure oil.

Sounds like my older bear oil/beeswax mix. Is it kinda on the hard side but pliable when rubbed between two fingers or can you stick your finger in it with little effort?

I'm pretty ignorant about rendering the fat into oil. Do you put say an inch or so of water into the crockpot and then fill it up with fat or do you forego the water all together?

As I suspected, that big jar is producing a lot of oil. Drawn off and filtered again, the 3 jars shown here have been sitting for 4 days now and are pure oil.
