Well, good for you Scota for having convictions. Personally I think it's a good idea and I still may do so at a later date, but I had an unfortunate incident while prepping the inlay and broke off one of the star's arms, so I chose not to do it on this build. I'm happy with the build though, so not disappointed at this point and I do appreciate all the ideas and advice for sure.
 
This is Ebony and Bone;). It has been a long time since I did this, but if i remember correctly I did use stain on the wood, being very careful around the star and even still I did slop some on it, quickly wiped it off so it didn't have time to soak in deeply, even still it did color it and I very gently scraped it clean and carefully sanded it smooth. Hope this helps some.
