I had posted a question before about keeping rust out of my lead pot.

Marvelux claims it will keep your pot from rusting.

Has anyone tried this stuff? Does the claim hold up?

Don't know about the rust but I stopped using it as I didn't like the way it spat at me when I put it on the motlen lead. Of course under similiar situations I would spit too but..........

I found it held moisture and that was not a happy scene around lead.

I use Marvelux in my three pots. I find it does keep the rust from forming as heavily as it did prior to using it.

As for moisture...Marvelux is hygroscopic, just like black powder residue. I learned early on that I had to keep the jar firmly closed between uses and I wipe the spoon (I use a regular teaspoon to transfer the flux from the jar to the pot and the spoon NEVER touches the lead) off before dipping it into the jar. Why? The almost invisible residue of Marvelux from the previous "dose" will cause small droplets of water to form on the spoon. If you don't wipe it with a clean, dry cloth there is the possibility of getting moisture into the pot and "blowing" it. Just make sure your spoon is clean and dry and that you close the jar tightly immediately after getting what you need from it and you'll be OK.

I have been using the stuff for years.
Keep the top on tight and be carefull when you put the stuff in.
I have used beeswax and candel wax also, but it smokes terrible and needs to be flamed off.
Marvelux doesn't do that,
I have the same jar for along time

Never liked it. It builds up a residue on the sides of the pot that insulates the lead from the heat. I have had much better luck just using candle or beexwasy to flux the lead and I have very little rust anywhere on my pot.
