Hi Rudyard

Yes, I too have always been curious why the serpentine grips on the Indian/Indo-Arab/Omani matchlocks were so small. But I've seen some original match cord for these guns, and the diameter is definitely smaller. Just seems to be made different.

Having seen Indian charpoy beds and a few European medieval ones, the comparative cord sizes for supporting the incumbents look similar in size to their comparative matchlock cords. So maybe they each reflect the local common cord size?
As in" Stand by your Charpoys ', ' And standby your arms ! " Yes interesting comparison if a bit' left field' even for me .Ide concluded the heat of India sort of added to their tiny matchcord. But if I learned anything travelling is such climes its' Don't look for logic ' Out of the blue some kitmuggar will come out with such gems as "We are eating only Bengali chupaties ! ". If anyone is curios to learn more of idiocentric India I suggest read Erik Newbies 'Slowly down the Gangees " .
Regards Rudyard
