They gt a new shipment in and are starting to call people who are on their waiting list. It's going to be a good summer shooting all the handgonnes and matchlocks. :hatsoff:

Be sure to holler "Fire-In-The-Hole"...don't want to overly scare the 'wannabes' across the back fence! I can see the headlines now!! :rotf: :rotf:

That's one of the great things about a matchlock, you can light the sucker off with an unfiltered Lucky Strike or Camel and pi$$ off the sheeple in two ways at once... (Oh, my GAWD! He's smoking AND shooting a gun!!!):blah: :haha:

Filtered smokes would work, too, but the unfiltered ones increase the "insult-to-injury" ratio considerably. :winking:

Blunderbus,
The year I buit my wheellock I was at a shoot I always attend and it was being recalcitrant. I had not yet sufficiently acquired the 500 year old technology. So the Bushway lit a smallish cigar and handed it to me. I stuck it into the pan and the redhairedgal went BOOM! The cigar incredibly survived the encounter. I handed it back to him. His comment? "Well it tastes a little different." And he grinned.

Where do you think the term "smokepole" came from? :haha:

I may have to try packing a little powder in the end of a stogie. Heck, it may improve the taste, and it can't be any worse for you than what's already in there. :blah:

:v The MVT Germanic Matchlock arrived today in .62 calibre. I will show you some pix and a report. Overall the first thing I have to say that it was fairly well made, but with the usual Indian (?) tendency to overlook and botched up wood screw and a machine screw that didn't quite make it into it's correct location. These are minor compared to the way you get Pietta revolvers here in the states. Overall finish is good and the matchlock works---we will test it tomorrow if the weather permits and TS Barry has finished raining all over us.I still don't see how you can shoot this with one hand however. Here are some pix: (#1)

Pasquenel,
Yes, how would you grip it tightly enough to keep from dropping it and have all four fingers wrapped arounf the lever? You can't hardly wrap three fingers under the lever and use only on to actuate it. Or could you? Is there enough room between the lever and the stock by the time the match reaches the priming? :hmm:

Well, here's hoping you get it figured out. Give us a report forthwith.

:v Yeah there's plenty of room for the match to contact the pan. Either you need wrists with powerful muscles or you are a giant. I would figure that this is a two-handed weapon and you hold it like a sawed off double barreled shotgun---like in the old western days. Being a long time pistol shooter I don't intend to even try one-handed with ~60 grains of ffg. I probably will tie the gun to a tire for the first couple of shots and light 'er off with a fuse---just in case.

Those were my very first thoughts when I saw it advertised. How the diddly do you hold it and shoot it at once? Be fine for target shooting but how could such a set-up be used for any type of combat situation? Even hunting would be a bit tricky since you'd have to keep an eye constantly on the levelness of the pan. Oh well, it'll still be a fun toy! :winking:

:hmm: If you have strong fingers and wrist muscles---you could hold it and shoot it one hand--however I wasn't about to try. I fired about 15 ball out of it today and it's not an Olympic Free Pistol by no means---but it does cut paper from a rest and gives a typical smoothbore target pattern. It was fun and interesting, and the gun could be deadly also from a two handed waist level mode. I wouldn't want the .60 ball sailing near me as the sound of it zipping past would make me pee in my pants, if not worse. :rotf:

The trick with an early style stock like that is to hold it back by the ball at the butt end. It replicates the feel of a sword when held in a defensive "parry" position. When you are holding it down by the ball, you should be able to lift up the trigger-bar with your index finger.
