I am interested in this vest. What period does this fit?
Short vests with shawl collars were worn at least as early as 1840. By 1860 notch lapels we’re being worn concurrently They can still be found today, but longer because men wear their pants lower today.
To be critical of my own product, for the earlier years, the collar lapels should continue all the way around the back instead of stopping at the shoulder seam. That detail doesn’t show, if wearing a coat, and in ten years of wearing and selling these, no one has ever mentioned it. I am constantly researching clothing styles for men 1840 - 1890 and only recently became aware of this point. These vests are the most popular item in the sultry.

thank you for your interest.

No problem,
It may be appropriate for earlier, but I have photo evidence for 1840s, so I go with that.
I have done a little more research on this. According to “Fashion History Timeline” the waist length vest began replacing the longer waistcoat about 1810.
