A teat gun??? What the heck are ya hunting, Zonie? That sounds mighty painful. What, may I dare ask, is a teat gun? :shocked2:
 
No, it isn't what your thinking. :grin:

The teat cartridge was used in some small pistols.

It loaded from the front of the cylinder and was so named because of the small protrusion or teat which stuck out the center at the rear of the case.
This small "teat" held the priming powder which detonated when the hammer fell on top of it and crushed it against a area under it.

This cartridge was designed to get around Smith and Wessons 1848? patent for a thru bored cylinder and rimfire ignition.

Another idea had a tab or lip sticking up from the rear of the case, hollow bullets with the powder and primer inside the rear of them, and the pin fire cartridge with a protruding pin that intersected the real primer down inside the case.

Then there was of course the needle gun which the German military .....What did you say Claude? OH, Sure. Oh well, back to muzzleloading. :grin:
