Gentlemen,
My daughter and I were shooting the other day and I tried a method I have never used- 1/3 murphys oil soap, 1/3 hydrogen peroxide and 1/3 alcohol. I put it in the barrel for 10 minutes and poured it out. Repeated. Then swabbed the barrel with dry patches. I (according to my daughter) must have looked like a monkey doing math. It was CLEAN. I was amazed! Easiest way I have ever done. If y'all have tried this, have you done it with revolvers?
Thank you, David

The mixture has been around since the 70's, it started in Friendship.

Some folks love it and some scream loudly about the hydrogen peroxide in it.

Glad it worked for you.

Long time user and advocate.
You don't need to leave it in there for ten minuets though, it works very fast.. I just wipe clean, or flush.

It's sometimes called "Friendship Speed Juice" and does clean rather thoroughly (especially your hands!). As long as you don't leave it in the bbl. for long, e.g., 30 mins. or less, it's fine, but you have to dry and oil the bore afterward (jiust as you would with water). Household H2O2 (2% - 3%) isn't the powerful oxidizer that's been used in rocket fuels of the past, but it is "time sensitive" nonetheless.

Thank y'all for the replies. I have used the hot soapy water and patches for 35 years and this was so much easier. I wonder about doing it with a revolver cylinder. Will it strip the bluing? I have heard some folks use balistol for long storage. Opinions?
Thank you,
David

Does MAP really clean better than soap and water? With all the foam and all it sure seems so. And look at how clean your hands are after using MAP on your hands. MAP does clean well and so does soap and water. Always be sure to dry the bore, displace any water and use a filming rust inhibiting lubricant to finish off. In some climates of dry humidity Ballistol works. I use Ballistol as a final cleaner after the drying and water displacement. Ballistol kind of, sort of builds a film, but not as good as Barricade.

I once carried a longrifle in the white to Friendship and shot it enough to get a zero.
I cleaned it most throughly after shooting it and again when I got home using MAP. I took the rifle apart to finish it which included rust browning. The last step was pouring boiling water on the barrel to stop the rusting when I had a good finish. I did not plug the muzzle so the bore was filled with boiling water. As soon as it cooled I immediately cleaned it with JPO
(Just plain oil). The amount of black gunk that came out of that new barrel was astonishing.

Been using MAP over 30 years, quick clean at end of match day 10-15 done including drying the barrel and wiping with RIG. I do it every time the same way wither putting the gun up for the night, or till the next match in a week or till the next season.

No after rust whatever.

Flash Rust Bwahahahahahaha! now that's funny.
