I bought a 1000 "Montana X-treme" 2 round cotton patches at a gun show for $8.95 and they're outstanding...thick, absorbant, etc...wished I'd bought several bags.

Google only showed one place that carries them and they're asking $13/1000.

Was wondering if anybody knows about this brand of cleaning patches, and if so, if you know of a source with a better price?

Wow, exellent price  If I could find cleaning patches that cheap I would stop making my own. That is a heck of a lot of cleaning without worrying where your shears are.

Good deal Roundball, thanks for the heads up on those.

I'll bet you have a difficult time finding any. Haven't seen these at stores in a while. I searched Google and came up empty-handed.

roundball -

I was one of the lucky ones to be a field tester for Montana Extreme Products when they were first getting ready to come out. All their products are excellent and are still heavily used by me.

Thanks for the cut and paste...I usually don't bother driving to places for things like this, and particularly now with gas prices like they are...normally order stuff off the Internet...sent you a PM

Gas prices have no effect on my doing whatever I want - lifes too short to worry about the little things you can't change anyway.

Anyway, roundball has my supplier's contact info via PM that he can share if he wants to.

FYI, I checked the board's advertiser before I posted my question about Montana X-treme brand of patches, and because that brand is not listed by the board's advertiser I thought it was fair game to post a question about it.

Now however, after seeing that the posting rules have been reiterated today, I'm not comfortable about posting any more...I'm confused about what can and cannot be posted about another supplier even if the board supplier doesn't carry the item in the first place, so I'll err on the side of caution...sorry.

I see said the blind man. Guess you are referring to: "Participants may not use the Forums to post advertisements or commercial solicitations of any kind" that was posted by Claude last night as a reminder of the forum rules. Now I am sorta confused too, although I can't believe Claude would prevent us from helping each other out with source suggestions or ideas (whether they are from a board sponsor or not). Board sponsors just don't have everything FCOL.

Clarify please Claude/Admin.

This has been a very confusing issue and I apologize. I'm working on a very detailed explanation of this, but for now let me try to clarify part of it.

The rule about advertising and posting links to items for sale does not preclude members from asking where they can get something and having members point them to a supplier. Members sharing resources is one of the benefits of the Forum.

The rule is designed to prevent people from selling directly on the forum, or pointing you to their web site (advertising).

Below is a modified version of something I've posted before that may help clarify the intent of the rule. A better explanation is coming soon.

Acceptable: Someone asks, "Where can I get one of these?" You may offer, "TOW" or "Dixie Gun Works".

Unacceptable: Someone begins a thread with, "Hey, I sell powder horns, check out my web site.

Unacceptable: Someone is discussing powder horns and you tell them, "I make horns and sell them for $90. Go to my web site XXXX.com". In this case, you should contact them outside the Forum and make your sales pitch.

The policy exists for a reason. We've had people join just to promote their business. I delete posts and members every month for this very reason. I just deleted a member who joined and within the first two days, he spammed the Forum with ads for Gun Auctions and Gun Shows. It's an attractive place fro the seller to reach over 6,000 gun enthusiasts, but that's not why we're here. If they want to advertise, they can purchase an ad.

Does this mean I can make that post to make members aware that a supplier has a big sale going on?

There's an email being sent to all members explaining the policy. You should receive it shortly.

"...Unacceptable: An original, unsolicited post: "Check out this site, they have some great deals on x"..."

If I'm interpreting your broadcast correctly, the above passage is what prevents us from making any further posts in the future that would let fellow members know about a good sale price going on at a particular BL supplier location.

Whether it be for patches, flints, balls, ramrods, powder, rifles, bags, etc...no more references to the Maine Powder House for a powder magazine sale, or to a particular Goex distributor with the best sale price for a case of powder this month, or Southern Bloomer for patches...Cains Outdoor, TOW, Dixie, etc, etc ??

I really want to understand this precisely as I don't want to step over some line...as anyone should know by now, my style is to always share anything and everything I discover with my fellow muzzleloader friends here if I think it might be of some benefit to them...and in many instances it's about good sales on something at some supplier or another that most all of us use large voulmes of in this hobby.

I just want to be perfectly clear...thanks
:v

All I can do is repeat what I posted above...
