Is there a India made Fusil de Chasse importer that has period correct stock that does not need removing most of the wood?
I'm afraid not. The beauty of a Fusil De Chasse is in the slim, graceful lines. While they may function fine, the Indian made guns are way too chunky.

If I do grab that Fusil, I'm going to have to do some research, and put it on a diet. I'm not afraid to remove some wood.

I’m on my 3rd wood removal and refinish of my india trade gun. I got the wood removed and sanded ready to stain. If it doesn’t take the stain this time I’m turning it into a Bumford type G trade gun and painting it Red. Then I’m done with india guns even though they can shoot as well as a Pedersoli.

Gil, look back a couple of pages of this thread for tips. Seems others had good success with leather dyes, as Indian wood doesn't like stains.

Thanks but I already use leather dye. Gus gave me some instruction on using it after I seal the monkeyteak. I’m trying that next. I’ve almost finished sanding and about to start the sealing process. Wish me luck and thanks. Gil

Here’s what this teak looks like! That curly mess will not hold leather dye . Even after several coats it appears to take but comes back a brown mess like vomit. Sorry but that’s what it looks like.

Interesting discussion. I'm 60 days out from the projected delivery date for my Loyalist Arms 1835/40 US Percussion Conversion Musket . I went with a percussion since I'm more interested in the ACW due to participating in the N-SSA. I really really want to get it in time to develop a load and participate in the Canadian Cabin Fever Challenge of musketry this coming year.
