You can get a good idea of what the index head looks like.

In this photo, Leprechan is showing Tom how the index can be changed to allow a different number of grooves to be cut.

here's a different view...the barrel will be supported in that tube, which will rotate, allowing the cutter to cut the next groove.

Ok, the barrel has been inserted and clamped in place. The rifling head can be seen in this picture.

Oiling....the cutter needs to be oiled to help lubricate and wipe away any chips the accumulate.

You know darn well there aint no oil in there! Ohhhhhhh my, that was a cold brew and did it ever taste good!
