I received the barrel from Bobby today. The invoice says .50 smooth, but it's been relined with a ~0.435" bore (40 cal ball?), vent hole filled, no more cone at muzzle, and breech plug not yet retightened. It's interesting to see the erosion of the breech plug bore face.

Everything for $200 + shipping. Looks like I will be able to request the barrel inletting at Pecatonica after all.

Hey !!! Congratulations !!! Talk about arrival at the 11th hour. LOL Can't even tell there is a liner in the bore. Bobby's an honest guy. If the barrel only needed burnishing, he would have done that. GOOD no cone at the muzzle. You don't want it. Old vent hole is now plugged, so you can make a new one in just the right spot when the time comes. You can clean the breech plug face and threads and have it tightened while at Pecatonica. They will just need your new stock, barrel, and in this case, the ramrod. But bringing everything doesn't hurt. Double check the new bore diameter at the muzzle. If correct at .435 you can use a .410 ball. Track of the wolf stocks .400 and .410 balls plus the other shooting accessories. With a smooth bore, you want to use a ball 2-3 calibers smaller than the nominal bore size. From the muzzle end, it looks like a great job. Glad the barrel arrived just in time.

My guess is its now more unwieldy .Re full stock most seem to be a join in front of the lock the bands hold it all together anyway. Now its one less original example ruined is how I see it.

That thickness is just 1-2" at the muzzle only. That eliminates the muzzle swell in the original barrel where you have to measure the caliber 2-3" down the bore. It's now nominal bore size from breech plug to the muzzle. Now the barrel can be loaded, shot, and cleaned like any typical smooth bore musket.
