"it seems to me that back in the day I realize that true mountain men used whatever they had handy and I'm sure if they had and and could afford a 30.06 and a pick up they'd a had one."

Yeah but what has that got to do with anything about the history channels programming choice? That is just another angle on the old lame arssed if they "coulda they woulda thing" not even relevant to this post/topic. I did not see where the History C claimed anything they did not provide in this series, some find it interesting some of us have lived various parts of this lifestyle. Some will not care for it, my guess is if they would have had TV's "back then" not many would have watched this show but prefered ESPN instead.

I watched and was turned off by the stupid aspect. Nothing 'mountain man' about these guys. Just anti-social hermit types. Can we say "bums"?
Not watching again.
Oh, I get it now. If a man don't live your way..it makes him a bum..got it

I would not think that anyone who works as hard as they do could be rightly called a "bumb" and they likely live as close to the Mt man concept of old that most have in mind as one will find today. There are many who do not really have a clue as to the real lives of the Mt Men of the past more than what they have seen in movies or on TV

Typical reality drama, all week the commercials have been about how this Carolina guy is going to defend his mountain against the big bad wood cutters, even if means to the death! I'm sure with typical fashion once all the hype is played out, this great battle will fizzle out to little or nothing....most likely a misunderstanding...who knows but stay tuned to find out!

Ok, so, I gave this piece of trash a few episodes to see just what it was and it is officially one of the worst piece of trash I've seen on the History channel. :shake:

Producer #1 says "Hey how about a show about Mountain Men!"

Producer #2 says " I like that! We can follow one guy whos on the edge of really being to old to live this life style.....and one looney bird who is not really physically fit to be in the back woods of Alaska....oh and ah not sure of his mentality either....and one guy who trys to teach others on this way of life but needs some teaching himself....

I don't know about you all but no man touches my hunting guns that I use. I certainty don't let anyone else sight my guns in before I go hunting. Thats just ******* stupid... :youcrazy: :shake: :barf:

A better title for that show would have been "Living Off the Grid" instead of giving it a title that leads one to expect something else.

Lost 10 minutes of my life with this show....will not be getting them back either! "History Channel" should change it's name to silly pawn mountain cajun swamp channel! :idunno:

I really got no problem with the gator guys, actually look forward to them every week even though the editing drives me nuts sometimes....but I sure can do without the rest of the shows on there...

Yeah, I admit to watching the gator hunters....grew up in Florida and that was standard, no seasons though, tree huggers thought they were 'endangered'! :rotf:

It's a fun show to watch to see if you can really understand them and match their words to the subtitles! :haha:

Still, it's not 'History".....at least they don't have the lizard lickin' repo guys! :rotf:

I have to admit to being entertained by it. I mean, this or "Dancing with the Stars" or "Jersey Shore"? I do find it so sad that the History Channel has really abandoned us though. I would be glued to History Channel to watch "Dog Fights" again or other real history book information. Do you suppose anyone from the History Channel reads this?

That and the Battle 360's series was the best things the History Channel has made. I would have liked to have seen more done with the 360 concept concerning not only WW2 but other conflicts.

Mountain Men = stupid stupid stooopid. Drama based manure.

Last episode a friend goes looking desperately for his friend who has been "missing" for a whole 6 hours. Oh My God!!! So he takes out his SKB over/under skeet rig and takes off through at least 4 inches of snow with the shot gun broken open and over his shoulder like he's waiting his turn at the range but walking reeeeealy desperately 'cause he's in BEAR country and HAS to find his friend because no one has seen him in, like,,,6 hours IN THE WILDERNESS!! My question? Who in the world would go traipsin through THE WILDERNESS with an unloaded shot gun carried over the shouder like that? The producer who has his head burried in a dark place, that's who. Stupid reality show.

It's on my low level of intertainment. but better than some stuff on the boob tube. I think they should do some personal research before they venture out to piss a lot of people off. I will watch it tonight to see if they get anything right.

Really not impressed with this show, especially the guy representing my state of Montana. He and his friend hear two trees rubbing together due to the wind and can't identify what it is. The more they hear the sound the more nervous they get. I grew up near where he lives and have heard that sound many times there as well as other parts of the west. If you live in any area with timber this is a common sound. Later (possibly after it was explained to him) he reveals with a shocked look on his face that he solved the mystery of what caused the sound. How much time has this guy spent outdoors to not know what that sound is? :shake:

They also show him sitting around on a hunt with his finger on the trigger of his rifle. Not getting ready to take a shot, just sitting around. His apprentice buddy, who really seems to admire him, might want to keep a good eye on what direction that rifle is pointed. Maybe offer a little tough love. :slap:

Don't think much of the series, although it is better than much of the other reality show junk on television. I am a fan of Eustace Conway, who I think has earned his reputation as a naturalist long before this show ever came along. He headed to the Appalachians when he was 17 to learn self sufficiency, and has since passed this knowledge onto many young folks who have spent time at his place. Will Hollywood tarnish his image? Maybe, but I wouldn't expect to hear about him spending his nights at the Marriot (ala Bear Grylls) after a days shoot in the mountains.
