I broke the frizzen on my Traditions Mt rifle the other day, when I look up Tradions Mt rifle I get an entirely different gun, ( its the top gun in my avatar). The barrel says traditions mountain rifle 1- 66

The frizzen I ordered in very narrow unlike the one on my gun. Does anyone know why what the deal is?

probably bringing up the CVA mt rifle, which does have a smaller lock, which ended up being traditions Mt rifle. just call traditions and order one direct. I have called them several times and bought directly from them. your rifle is the new version

You might try calling Deer Creek and telling them what you have.
They carry the old CVA stuff but I'm sure they are familiar with the newer Traditions versions.
If you bought the narrow frizzen from them I'm sure they would take it back and refund your money.

You both have called this a new gun but I have owned it for several years, I think its rather a discontinued model branded Traditions. I recall I got it on a closeout deal

Thank you for your answers

What you have is the remnants of Austin and Halleck mountain rifle that traditions bought out several years ago.
I also bought one and while a nice looking rifle it is poorly finished off. Instructions that came with rifle say lifetime warranty from traditions, but I wouldn't hold my breath hoping they would still have parts. Might try finding a frizzen for an A&H mountain rifle, but you will probably have to adapt a similar frizzen to fit.
Maybe have someone repair yours?

The Log Cabin Shop has an excellent reputation for repairs if you send old frizzen and lock may be able to set you up with an improved lock.

You sir are 100% correct, thanks for clearing that up for me

L&R makes the RPL lock, designed to replace the original Maslin lock, it is orders of magnitude better than the original lock and fits in the original mortise with little or no modification. that upgrade is the best thing you can do for that rifle.

The L&R RPL for the CVA/ Traditions large lock is the one you refer to?

Will not work 5 1/2"x 1 1/8"

the top one is a L&R RPL lock, the percussion an original Maslin lock it fit the mortise perfectly.

I have one on my mountain flinter, fit perfectly
You have the current traditions mountain rifle made by Ardesa. The OP and I have the limited run made of left over Austin and Hallock mountain rifle parts. While the original A&H was a fair quality piece near the end quality suffered and by the time Traditions took over were put together by monkeys by the looks. Lock is 5 1/2" long by 1 1/8" wide.

You are correct. Talked to L&R and they have nothing that will fit, said its not a Maslin lock just an oddball with really bad geometry, this part I knew. Best they could do was try fit a new frizzen or possibly convert to cap.

Actually they are both vintage CVA Mountain Rifle kit guns I built back in the 70s. They were both percussion, but I converted one to flint.

+1 That's who I meant. Brad Emig at Cabin Creek. Brain fade! Altho The Log Cabin Shop also gives great service.
