Nothing to compare to but Schuetzen work very well for me … a few have required 2 strikes but I find them very reliable on a sharps .. a bit loose but that hasn’t mattered .

Which are best. Sheutzen or RWS musket caps for my Optima inline (Idaho)
They perform equally but .... the metal in the RWS is a bit softer than Schuetzen. What this means is if the nipple on your gun has a slightly different geometry from the Schuetzen cap, it may not go off from the first hammer strike and that's completely due to the cap not being fully seated on the nipple. It's an easy fix, and this even helps with RWS. Chuck the nipple in a drill and lightly polish the nipple with some 400g sandpaper. No worries from that point on. All my competition guns have this done and zero misfires

This post just reminded me of something.... I am getting low on #10 &11 caps, but some where out in my gun room I have 3000 musket caps I picked up 5 yrs ago when things were tight...also musket nipples for my caplock rifles... of course that is not a problem with my rock locks...

I'm gonna do this today. I have a lot of musket caps and have been having a few failure to fires in my Hawken and Renegade. I try and remember to push the cap on real tight with the hammer but it still doesn't always work. I am using ampco nipples.

I just received my delivery of Schutzen musket caps. I didn’t know they were made in Spain by Reo, but I could not wait and went out into the garage to snap a few. From my simple testing, I would say they are much more powerful than the CCI multi purpose caps I was able to buy locally.
Maybe with real black it may not make a difference , but with Pyrodex RS,(I am saving my real black for my flintlock), I had a few CCI’s that failed to ignite the charge in my T/C Hawken. I still have a supply of #10 and #11 percussion caps, but these musket caps are sooo much easier to install, especially in the cold weather.

Current production CCI musket caps are rubbish for live fire shooting if you're serious. They're designed for reenactors shooting blanks.

The CCI Musket Caps are 100% so far on my Musket nipple equipped .54 Renegade lighting off Pyrodex RS. I just put Musket nipples on my old CVA 12 Bore SXS so will soon find out (maybe this weekend) if the CCIs will reliably light RS in it. And yes my old stiff, fumble fingers like the larger Musket caps.
