An estate sale here in Joplin has a musket (cap)supposedly dated early 1800s. The engraving on the side has the name "Riddle." I am totally ignorant about these firearms. I have a photo I could send. I would post it on here if I could figure out how.

There was a Riddle in Lancaster, Pennsylvania that made flintlocks around 1770.

Without pictures I couldn't say if the gun you are looking at fits that time frame or not.

It would have brass furniture, a wide rather flat butt plate.
It would be a fullstock rifle with the stock running clear out to the muzzle of the barrel.

It could have a percussion lock on it if it had been reworked in the 1800's.

I was wondering what a piece like this may be worth? Specifically, a "Riddle" muzzle that has been refitted with a percussion cap in the early 1800s.

Something funny about that gun. Looks like it might date back to the 1970's. The trigger guard sure looks familiar.

Looks like someone's first attempt at building a rifle from various parts, circa 1950-1980
Needs a closer inpection.
Looks like a modern barrel, lock, trigger and guard.
guard is screwed on
barrel looks milled and has exterior raduis at the muzzle. like cva,T/C, others.
Buyer beware.
