You will find that the sxs guns from the 12 bore and smaller are the elite they are the ones in their day which were well looked after , but at the other end you have the large bore guns of which most have had a rough live mostly through the element on where they are used Most of this type of gun are used for fowling on the foreshore and inland marshes and the large ones such has punt guns were more referred to Has Tools Of The Trade. Most common were the double and single 7 8 bore the larger 6 and 4 bore and the 2 bore bank gun with there long barrels were ideal for goose shooting and could kill out to 70yards plus on the goose flights enclosed is a image of such

There was another type of gun built specially for the sport of Live Pigeon shooting from traps which lasted in the UK for just over a hundred years ,before pigeon shooting it was popular using sparrows instead of pigeons One of the well known places recorded for both sparrow shooting from traps and the same for pigeons was Plumstead Marshes near London .
The percussion guns that were specially built came in large bore sizes from a 4 down to a 12 they were built with little drop at the comb so when you sighted in they were very straight with your eye only focussed on the muzzle bead this was to regulate them to shoot high , also they were minus a ramrod image enclosed

Finding a Belgian or British original can be a worthwhile adventure. One I found a few years ago was marked Joseph Manton, but had Belgian proofed barrels. It was in 15 ga. and had been a delight to use.

If you are looking for original sxs flintlock sporting guns enclosed is a image of a stand of originals .

great guns! thank's for posting!!

I'm in the same boat with looking, mostly what I'm seeing are 12 gauges. And most of those are tightly choked.
Pedersoli kits are less expensive and very easy to put together. But I do agree that the best buys are found on gunbroker etc.

I've got a nice original Parker 12 gauge double and a modern New Englander 12 gauge single for sale. Both are good shooters. $600 for the double, $300 for the single. The single has removable chokes.

Lot of them over here in the Uk. English made and original. Single barrel ones are usually very cheap.
I have an original Birmingham made 16g double in excellent condition. Cost £300.
Dunks what would it cost get 1 sent to USA?

What gauge and your favorite load?
Hi,
It is 13 gauge, Belgian made, with laminated steel barrels. I usually use 75-80 grains 2F powder with over shot and cushion wads, a little over an ounce of shot, and a very thin over shot wad. The bores are cylinder and I rarely shoot over 30 yards. The shot gun was given to my grandfather during the 1920s by one of Francis Bannerman's sons as partial payment for work he did for their New York retail store. I appears to have never been fired before I took it on my first pheasant hunt in 1980. The very first shot fired killed a pheasant. It is the model of quality I used as my guide from the very first that I started building muzzleloaders.

Tn Poor Boy. Not checked myself but was told by a dealer that unless you are exporting bulk it's just not worth it. He explained you have to buy a licence on which you can export a number of guns. Not worth it for one.
