Newby here, looking for a muzzleloader safety course that satisfies the Alaska requirements. I'm in Barstow, CA, so one close or on the internet would be best.

Thanks, Jim ::

Are you participating in a special weapons hunt in Alaska? If you are hunting a regular open season you do not need the muzzleloader course. It is required only for restricted hunts. As far as I know you have to take the course in Alaska. I may be wrong.
I emailed the Alaska fish and game this summer asking about the muzzleloader course requirement. Here is the reply:

Yes, you can use your muzzleloader in any general "any weapons" hunt available without having muzzleloader certification. Good luck on your hunt and THANKS for your service to our country!!

I hope this helps and maybe saves you money.

Er....doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me...I mean..you can use them in a regular season..but need a course if you hunt in a "restricted hunt"? What happens...folks lose their faculties or something then? I've heard of special season hunts...managed hunts....but what is a restricted hunt?

Huntin, thanks for the info. I have already talked to Tony at AK F&G. He said that he thought some other states also taught the course and that he thought that one of the blackpowder organizations also taught the course on-line. He said AK would recognize them.

So, I'm looking for anyone who might know of a course.

I live in the south end of the Bitterroot . Sure is dry here . Dryest I have ever seen it in 37 yr. Rivers and creeks are almost dry. Fishing almost over ---for ever ---if we don't get a lot of snow or rain for several years to come. :imo:
