My Middlesex Village Bess arrived yesterday.
The fit and inletting are fine and it sparks well, but the color of the finish is a little "off".
There have been posts where people have talked about refinishing them. I'm trying to get a walnut finish.
I'm looking for advice on staining teak(?)wood.
Particularly color of stain, type of stain ect.
Could someone who has refinished an Indian stock give me some advice?
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,
On staining the MVT Bess wood, check my post in the Indian Bess thread. I recommend using either oils or alcohol stains and then tung oils.

When you refinish, if you sand, wear a mask and long sleeved clothing . Teak dust is listed as an irritant in my references.

a proper OH&S approved respirator ofr foam mask - not one of those stupid paper things - they don't work!
:imo:

I've used spray-on oven cleaner to strip the finish off some Indian guns. Spray - wait - wash in tub with running water and green scrubby pad - rub in liquid soap - repeat wash.

Repeat process until pores are clean.

The goo washed away was black.
