Today was day 3 of IL 2nd gun season. I was feeling a little ill over missing a doe yesterday, about a 60 yard freehand shot. This morning at daylight, I saw a nice 8-pointer, woulda been a good one to break in the .54 GPR on, but a shot just wouldn't present itself. It rained the rest of the day. This afternoon, still raining, I sat half-way down a steep holler, waiting for activity at the bottom. As it was getting late I saw a doe almost 1/4 mile away, on the other side of the canyon, was sure it would parallel the creek rather than take the steep grade head on. Instead, she crossed the creek, walked right through the briars, and walked straight up the rocky grade headed for me. I dropped her in her tracks at 25 yards. 1st roundball kill Proudest I've been of a doe since I shot my very first deer 16 years ago. I'm going back out for another in the morning.
