I always suggest that makers sign thier work for posterity. I’m just getting into leatherwork as it applies to muzzle loading and am shopping for a custom stamp. That’s a nice bag.
I have a friend who frequents antique stores. He saw an "antique" powder horn for sale and asked about it. My friend is master horner Willy Frankfort. The clerk/ owner said it was an old original. Willy said no I made that horn, there are my initials and year I made it.
Sign and date your work.
I have seen DGW tomahawks being sold as antiques; of course , I have seen toys I played with as a child in the '50's being sold as antiques as well ! So I'm old!

I should mark it somehow.

Guarentee the ones talking **** buy everything they own. People make there own items for two reasons. They love making things or it's more cost effective.
I live on a budget and have always found great satisfaction in making things. Some end up in the trash and some end up making me money.
Never stop trying practice makes perfect!

I'm the same way. I like making stuff and if it will save me some clams I'll at least try it.

Keep making “‘cootermints”
After a bit you’ll give away the first ones and keep the better ones.
Make flint wallets to fit the tools you make, turnscrews, touchhole picks, flint leathers, pan brushes… the list goes on!
This black powder game is Great if you’d rather make stuff out of leather, wood, horn and brass than buy expensive ugly plastic!

Exactly

I originally posted some pictures of the first ball bag I made and received a very discouraging comment from a knucklehead and decided to remove the pictures. But since then I had a lot of interest in the bag and discovered that several others thought it was a worthwhile project and offered some positive feedback. So I am re-posting the pictures for those interested and I'm glad there are more good folks on this forum than bad ones. Thanks for the encouragement folks. I know it's not a professional job, but I'm pretty fond of it.

Nothing wrong with that @scottbeverly2004!

Don't let negative comments from anyone discourage you from making things or sharing what you make here. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who build themselves up by putting others down. They don't seem to realize their negativity says more about their own ignorance and low self esteem than it does about the people they insult.

Agreed. It's a sad miserable person who has to do that. When I come across those folks, I'm just going to hit the ignore button and walk away.

I'm just curious, and not looking to argue. Simply curious because I did not see the topic in it's original state...
How are we defining "negative comments?"
When I first saw the thread, only about 4 posts, the OP posted pictures of the bag and the first two comments posted after the OP were basically "its ugly" and "I don't like it" if my memory serves me.
Those posts caused the OP to pull his pictures until others asked to see it.

Constructive criticism is helpful. Rude comments are in another class altogether. I admire anything someone is willing to post here even if I think I quietly think it is ugly I’d never post that thought. BTW good job on the bags.

Wet forming with rice is a great idea— I’ve been using sand from the grandkids sandbox… hopefully Before the neighbors’ cat finds it!
I got the idea from a video on YT. The guy said you could use sand or rice, so I had some rice readily available. Once it dries and you remove the rice, you should drop some round balls in it and shake the bag a bit to get all the rice out that had stuck to the inside of the bag.
