My first BP pistol.

It arrived last evening. Finally, I have my new Traditions Trapper 50 Cal Percussion Pistol in the gun cabinet. Mostly what I did with my NOOB pistol was to first admire how sharp-looking it is. Second, checked it over to the best of my knowledge, not having a muzzle loader before. Third, took some NOOB photos. Of course being evening, didn't get to use natural light, and these turned out a little dark. Still hope you enjoy.

Maybe just too accustomed to this acronym; yeah, plain-Jane English would help. NOOB is "new-out-of-box." It is used all the time by members of the rifle forum I'm on.

I mildly gulped at the "suggested" 25 yards. Definitely will need that practice-practice-practice, even to the point of learning how to hold this somewhat different style pistol. I'm thinking to start at 10 yards, move to 15......then shall see what those are like.

Some weekend time reading the manual from page 1 to page last. Cleaning needed.

I have one in flintlock I really like. Need to shoot it more but from what I've seen it's quite accurate. The keyed barrel makes it a cinch to clean too.

You are going to enjoy it. Mine is quite accurate even with me pulling the trigger. For some reason I need to swab between shots to maintain the accuracy even though it's the same lubed patch and round ball in use in rifles that don't require it. I also find the Trapper comfortable and well balanced. I should shoot it more often.

True -- many of my friends say of a firearm they like, "I need to shoot it more." Agreed. I also hope to find mine to be an accurate shooter.

There you go as well....another person "needing to shoot it more." I have my favorite .45 Colt revolver and just don't get to the range with it often enough. This must a common "wish" of most shooters!

Sorry, I probably used the wrong term. I was referring to the wedge that retains the barrel. Hooked breech makes it real easy to remove the barrel for cleaning.

Yes, the wedge that holds the barrel in the stock is sometimes called a key.
