Sorry fellas, no pictures, I'm just getting ready to start. I have cherry blank that I just had Dave Keck inlet a 38" Colerain B-weight .50 caliber barrel into and he just called to advise me that it's done. I tend to be extremely busy with work at this time of year but I can't wait to see it and get started on my first build from a blank. I can't wait.

gang, may I ask when you dropped it off or sent it? Just trying to get a general idea of turn around time..
thanks,

I don't recall exactly but I'm pretty sure that it was within the last month. Keep in mind that this was just getting inlet and didn't need profiled, I'll do that myself. When Dave called to advise me that my stock was ready to be picked up, I said, "you mean all 3 are done or just the one that only needed inlet" and the phone went blank. He had forgotten that he also has two halfstock blanks that he's inletting and shaping for me. He said that he had gone on a tear and wanted to get all of the stocks that only needed inlet out of there. He had told me that it might be several months before I could pick up all of them so I was pleased that he did this one and called me when it was completed so now I have at least one winter project that I can think about and work on while I await the other two stocks from Dave.

Last July it was 5 months almost to the day..i called Dave ..He laughed he said we just made a mold of my barrel..The wood was in the inleting machine..Should be here next week....bbl inlet,rr hole drilled.butplate shaping...
will be Early virginia,full figure ash,brass trim,single trigger,black horn cap,42" 58 cal rr Rice,virginia bbl.Wood p box 13 3/4 lop chambers round face lock...Oh did I mention Elk in 2 years?

we enjoy pictures when you can post~ Dave has done a few for me, and his wax cast brass is what i will use~ it's always real nice...

if you can make the Lexington KY show, he has always alot of things to spend me $$ on!

I presume he was asking what the turn around time on the inletting job that Dave did for me, which was quite quick by the way. Like I explained previously, I've still got two blanks with him that are awaiting barrel and ramrod inletting and shaping from the lock panels back and I'm sure they'll take a little longer than this first one did, since it only required inletting.

Kaintuck, I won't be going to the Lexington show but I'll drive down to his shop to pick up this blank and the other two when they're done. I also try to get to the Lewisburg Show, which he also attends.

Approx. turnaround on currently getting stocks back from Knob Mtn. I have a bud that sent some stuff up a couple months ago and was wondering how much time he had to polish on his trigger guard and such...

In my experience on a typical rifle blank it takes me about 25-30 man hours to shape a stock with the barrel with the plug, carve the ramrod groove and drill the ramrod hole as well as shave and define the forestock and buttstock leaving the lock panels in relief. Bear in mind I use almost exclusively hand tools for that work. I try to have quick turn around time for my clients.

For what it's worth, I picked up the blank from Dave Keck yesterday and the barrel inletting and ramrod drilling were done perfectly, I'm very happy. Dave still has two blanks for me that he's inletting and shaping but if they turn out as well as this blank did I'll be beyond happy.
