My new 1740 Model 1 Brown Bess came today. Quite a beauty! Made by Veterans Arms LLC.

Does look nice. Any idea the wood type?
Assembling a Pedersoli Bess kit as we speak so I appreciate a good looking musket. And I believe Veteran Arms is just the importer.

I believe it is a hardened teak, stained to look like walnut. I can tell when I hold it that it is not Walnut. I also have an 1861 Springfield made from real walnut, you an tell the difference. But that is OK with me. I finally found a flintlock I could actually afford and get made.

I've been looking at a Bess by Verteran Arms for a while now, how's the fit and finish? I'm seriously considering buying one.

The fit is great. Most of the finish is nice, there are 2 spots on the wood next to the breech where you can tell the stain was applied a little unevenly. But it's miniscule and 99% of the finish is beautiful. I think they did a great job on it.
